Empire House

Built in 1910, as a bar/hotel with 8 rooms for lodging on the 2nd floor, the bar and office was on the 1st floor, as were the dinning room, sitting room and kitchen.

It is approx. 3500 square feet, not including the basement and the full attic.

The lot is a little more than 1/2 an acre.

Known as the "Empire House" the proprietor along with his wife and 13 children, lived in the house. As the children were married they left the homestead and the unmarried ones passed on, the last child died in 1995.

In 2000 there was a auction at the property and all the contents were sold, including the bar.

I purchased the property in 2001. At that time the outbuildings were all in disrepair, so I had them removed. The property was over grown with brush and small trees.

The house had of a lot of receipts that was collected over the years, from the building of the house to the charge books from when it was a small Fairlawn General Store.

At this point, it has been cleaned out, a new roof installed, painting of the outside wood work, removal of the bar restroom, removal of the rear porch, new concrete sidewalk in the front, 2 light post in the front were added, among other small improvements.

There are no structural problems. It was build without electrical wiring, it was added sometime around the 1920's, it should be replaced but it still works. Plumbing, a bath was added on the 2nd floor in the 1920's, all the plumbing needs replaced. No kitchen. City water, the water line to the house was replaced with copper in the early 1990's. Sewer service is available about 10' from the front of the house. Taxes, last year I paid $498.54 in Property Tax. The heating system was coal fired steam which needs replaced.

At this point in time there is no zoning in the township, but this will change in the near future.

No it is not in move in condition, it still needs a lot of work.
